New Delhi: India Gate

The India Gate looks very much like the Arc De Triomphe of Paris, spotting way less detail. Inspired by the one in Paris, Sir Edwin Lutyens designed it with simplicity in mind. It eventually became a prominent landmark that honors the 90,000 soldiers who died for the Indian Empire.

The word India is carved out at the very top of the India Gate. Within its four large pillars are the inscriptions of every soldier's name who died for the Indian Empire. The eternal flame is seen directly at the bottom of it. Right beside it is a single soldier standing his ground to protect it.

Walking around this grand monument gave me a sense of India's foot hole in the world. Its marble covered legs are rock solid that stems right into the very ground that Indians are living on. It is India's past, present and hopefully her future is a far brighter one for many years to come.
